Christmas Bird Count - Dec. 16th, 2011

All over North America, on December 16th,  thousands of birders participated in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count.

Fifteen Highlands Audubon members gathered before dawn at the Hudson Library.  They broke into four groups to cover in-town Highlands, Buck Creek, Turtle Pond and Horse Cove areas.
The weather was cold and foggy.  Thirty-seven species were counted in several hours.  No new species were found but the total was not bad at all for that day.

Kay and Edwin Poole kept with their tradition of hosting a lunch of chili and cornbread . . . a very welcome, warming lunch on that chilly day.
